Teaching a course on professional uses of wikis in a French university

Université Paul Verlaine

A few weeks ago, I started teaching a course about professional uses of wikis in a French university. First, I described wikis in the broader context of new cooperative approaches, Web 2.0 and the growing desire of people to participate and contribute. I explained the principles of cooperative management, insisting on the fact that cooperation needs to be assessed and rewarded by managers in order to be effective and widespread. During the next courses, we began to review the various uses of wikis in corporate situations, from project management to collaborative writing and brainstorming facilitation. As far as I know, this is the first course in a French university entirely focussed on wikis.

I have chosen to associate my students in the thinking since the topic is still quite new: their input is really important to me. We also make “live” exercices and practice on a wiki, in order to apply straight away the concepts we discuss.
